When Paul first started running with Belrose Run Crew, it wasn’t about chasing PBs or medals – it was about finding a local running community that simply didn’t exist yet.
“Coming up to two years now,” Paul says. “We were looking for a local running club, and there wasn’t one.”
That search led him to Kathy and the Belrose Run Crew – and he hasn’t looked back since.
Paul has always loved running, especially hitting the trails around Frenchs Forest. Like many runners, though, motivation could come and go depending on the season. What changed with BRC was consistency.
“With Belrose Run Crew, there’s always someone to motivate you out for a run,” he explains. “You’re never doing it alone.”
One of Paul’s standout achievements since training under Kathy’s guidance is completing the Bouddi Coastal Half Marathon – a course well known for being tough, technical and relentless.
“It’s a beast!” he laughs.
So what keeps him coming back week after week?
“My partners catching me up!”
It’s a simple answer, but it speaks volumes about the friendly competitiveness, accountability and shared progress that defines the crew.
Right now, Paul is working towards some big personal goals:
- Canberra Marathon in under 3:45
- Parkrun in under 21 minutes
But beyond times and distances, being part of Belrose Run Crew has reshaped his mindset around running entirely.
“Learning that any age, any speed, any size can run 100km. Truly amazing.”
One of the biggest surprises along the way?
“Hills can be fun.”
Something many runners never expect to say.
And for anyone sitting on the fence – feeling like they’re “not fast enough” or “not really a runner” — Paul’s message is clear:
“There will always be someone who will be happy to run at your pace. It’s fun just being out running.”
Paul’s story is a perfect reflection of what Belrose Run Crew is all about: real people, shared goals, encouragement at every pace, and discovering what you’re capable of – together.
